FAQ’s on Personalizing the Smart Money Clip^® 

What equipment is used to personalize the Smart Money Clip^®?

We use an in-house, state of the art YAG (Yellow Argon Gas) Laser Engraver to personalize our Smart Money Clip^®. Our YAG Laser Engraver produces incredible accuracy and detail, burning your requested letters, numbers or characters into the stainless steel metal of the Smart Money Clip^® with red-hot, “focused light.”  

If you are getting your Smart Money Clip^® personalized from other web-sites or at your local jeweler, be certain to ask what equipment they use to engrave. Less expense Rotary Mechanical Engravers and CO2 Laser Engravers frequently produce an inferior quality engraving. We do not guarantee the quality, longevity or accuracy of Smart Money Clip^® engraving done at other engraving providers.  

How much longer will it take to receive my order if I get it personalized?

Adding laser engraving does not increase the time to process and deliver your order. We do all engraving in our factory to avoid delay. Getting the Smart Money Clip personalized is simple and fast! 

Where is the engraving located on the Smart Money Clip^®?

All laser engraving for the Smart Money Clip is precisely centered, from left to right, across the top of the money clip side. This gives your personalization a prominent and permanent display that can be seen every time you or your gift recipient uses it. 

Our Laser Engraver is set-up specifically to engrave hundreds of daily orders on the clip side. We do not engrave the Smart Money Clip in any other locations. This speeds the flow of order processing, allowing us to ship your engraved order with the same speed as an order without engraving. If you want your Smart Money Clip® engraved in other locations (such as behind the cards) you can take it to a local engraver or jeweler that does custom engravings. 

How many letter, characters or numbers can I get engraved?

Either one or two lines of 16 characters per line. One line costs only $7.00, and the second line of engraving is an additional $5.00 (total: $12.00 for 2 lines engraved). Please keep in mind that the more characters you get engraved, the smaller they will have to be, to fit in the available space. Also note that if you engrave fewer characters (example: three initials) they will be engraved larger to fill the available space. See the “Add Engraving” page and roll over images on left and right for examples of how this will look. 

How do I know that my Smart Money Clip^® will be engraved exactly as I want it?

First, it is important that you enter your engraving order EXACTLY as you want it; putting in any spaces, capitalization and punctuation you want to be engraved. We will then engrave these characters exactly as you want them (example: if you enter three letters  ajp    we will engrave them as three lower case, not capitalized letters AJP). 

Second, be certain to specify the font/letter style you want. We offer three choices: Traditional, Modern and Script. The “Add Engraving” pages for each finish show images of these three character styles. Also there is Pop-Up view of the entire alphabet for each font style that allows you to see how each letter or number will look. Again, remember that individual character size will vary depending on the number of characters entered. 

Finally, put in a correct e-mail address to receive an order confirmation, AND check your e-mail order confirmation to make sure your order is accurate. What should I engrave?

Most people engrave just 2-3 initials in Capital Letters. This gives the Smart Money Clip® a clean and simple look. Our customers love that we engrave fewer letters, BIG and BOLD. Many customers prefer to stick with a first name, last name or nickname or even the name of their favorite sports team.  

Other people want something more specific, more personal and original. From the inspirational (Believe2Achieve), to the spiritual (John 3:16), to the profane (we can’t show these) to the fiscal (Show Me the $) we have seen and engraved it all! 

Frequently people will use the second line to engrave a date. This is especially helpful to the newly married (they’ll never forget their Anniversary Date!) 

One final thing to remember is that you can enter and order any of the symbols on a standard English Computer Keyboard (examples: #1 & %  ^ ! * + $ @).

Can I choose different font styles within a single engraved line, or in the second line of engraving? No, our laser engraving computer program is only set up to engrave one font or letter style per engraving. Engraving more than one font style on a single engraved Smart Money Clip^® is not done, due to the hundreds of engraved orders we process daily. 

Will my engraving be centered on the Smart Money Clip^®?

Smart Money Clip^® automatically centers each line of engraving ordered. It is very important to remember centering if you use periods after letters (example: A.W.S.) Using periods at the end of initials will throw off the automated centering feature, making the engraving appear to be too far to the left; because it uses the period on the far right (after the S.) to center the letters. 
 
 

Are initials engraved in Monogram style?

No. Initals are engraved consecutively in equal size. As an example, the initials for

Adam Michael Smith would engraved: AMS . (It is not engraved as a larger sized “S” in the center, with the “A” and the “M” circling it.)  
 

Why isn’t Script font recommended to be engraved in all Capital Letters?

When the Script font is ordered with all capital letters, one of two problems can occur:

All capital letters in script for initials don’t always look appropriate (example: “MOM” the first “MO” letters are separated by a gap from the last “M” which to the right). Longer names using all capital letters in script are usually illegible. Script letters were not made to be written or fit together in all caps. We can engrave it, but please don’t complain if you can’t read it… we told you so!

Yes, if we do not engrave the Smart Money Clip^® exactly as you have entered your order; just send it back to us within 90 days along with your original packing list, and we will re-engrave a new clip and ship it back to you immediately.  
 
 

How long will the engraving on my Smart Money Clip^® last?

We’ve seen Smart Money Clips^® engraved over five years old, look as precise and clear as the day they were shipped. We guarantee each and every Smart Money Clip^® engraving against fading or peeling for up to 90 days. Just send us an original packing list and the Smart Money Clip^®, along with a written description of what you see as the problem, and we will replace it with a brand new one engraved exactly as the original.  

Remember that we do not guarantee any Smart Money Clip^® engravings done by our other Smart Money Clip^® Re-sellers or engraving service providers.   
 

Are Engraved Smart Money Clips^® Returnable?

No, engraved Smart Money Clip^® are not returnable under any circumstances. The engraving is a permanent marking, burned into the metal. We have no way to re-sell your permanently personalized Smart Money Clip^®. 
 

What Smart Money Clip^® finishes look the best engraved?

Matte Black and Gun Metal finishes look the best with engraving. The reason is simple; both are darker finishes and we get the best contrast with the bright silver letters showing through against a darker background. Engraving done on Graphite and Gun Metal Smart Money Clip^® really “pops” off the clip! 
 

How many people order their Smart Money Clips with engraving?

During normal times of the year 60-70% of Smart Money Clips^® are ordered with engraving. This percentage jumps to 80-90% during the prime gift giving times of the year (Holiday, Graduation, Father’s Day and Wedding Seasons).  
 

How do I get my Smart Money Clips^® Engraved for FREE?

Getting FREE engraving is simple. Just order 6 or more Smart Money Clips^® with the same finish and the same number of lines (single or double line), and the first line of engraving will be free (a $7.00 per unit savings, or $7 x 6 units = $42.00). The shopping cart will automatically take off the amount “after” you have entered your sixth clip into your shopping cart.  

Some people need several Smart Money Clips^® for gifts (example: Giving gifts for all Groomsmen/Ushers in a wedding party), but others just get with their friends or co-workers and place a combined order to get FREE Engraving.   

A quick hint: If you know what you want engraving for 4-5 Smart Money Clips^® and are uncertain about what to engrave on the 6th; just order it with the same finish and same number of engraved lines, but leave the engraving space empty. This will greatly reduce the total cost of your order.
